Today marks a month since our flagship Prom Praise 2018 in the Royal Albert Hall! An evening where thousands gathered together to sing praise to our living God with a full symphony orchestra and 500 piece choir hosted by Hugh Palmer (Rector of All Souls, Langham Place) and Krish Kandiah (Home for Good, Ambassador for Tearfund). Hugh spoke about Jesus being the Light of the World whilst Joanna Lunn dazzled us with moving renditions of ‘The Lord is my Light’ and ‘This Joyful Eastertide’. For the first time singing with the All Souls Orchestra we were thrilled to welcome Worship Leaders Tim Hughes and Lucy Grimble. Tim led many of his well known songs such as ‘Here I am to Worship’ and ‘God of Justice’ whilst Lucy performed her latest song ‘Heartbeats’. As we recognised the significant birthday of Tearfund’s 50 years, Tim’s song ‘God of Justice’, written for Tearfund, saw a great call to action as thousands sang out from the congregation in the Royal Albert Hall to help the vulnerable. Krish encouraged people to recommit to praying for the end of poverty, while the orchestra underscored some archive footage featuring Tearfund’s projects over the years.
The massed choir collected singers from all over London, Crowborough, Brighton, Ipswich, Colchester, Bury St Edmunds, North Yorkshire, West Midlands, York, Oxford and Witney. Their careful preparations boldly led the congregational singing and no less their solo items. Adding to their number this year was the mighty sound of The Sons of Jubal choir joining them all the way from Georgia USA! Led by Dr Jon Duncan, they gave us an extra enriched sound with their arrangements of ‘In Christ Alone’, ‘My Soul’s been anchored in the Lord’ and a very powerful rendition of Nessun Dorma, renamed ‘Christ is Born’.
All the music was of course magnified by the gifted Musicians of the All Souls Orchestra led by Caron Cavalier under the baton of Noel Tredinnick. Their graceful playing yet tenacity and focus during Bernstein’s Candide was mesmerising to watch! This was also a great challenge for our camera team who prepared so well to give us some wonderful shots on the screens!
As we look back over another exciting Prom Praise, we give God thanks for the chance to sing his praises in such an iconic hall in London.
