Polce is a regular member of the All Souls Choir and shares his experience of how he has found singing in this ministry.
“Being a part of the All Souls Choir has been a real blessing to me. I very much enjoy the wide variety of repertoire we get to perform, from well known composers: John Rutter, Handel and Brahms, to the beautiful pieces and arrangements of the All Souls Composers; Ollie Nicolson, Noel Tredinnick and Joanna Gill. I love listening to the harmony created from them, it really lifts-up my soul and gives me a great sense of peace. The lyrics are always encouraging, especially for my personal reflection of the great love of God.
One of my favourite performances was singing in the 2017 Christmas Concert. It was such a lovely experience to sing with the orchestra for the first time. In my hometown, in Eastern Indonesia, we do not have any orchestras so wouldn’t get this experience. I particularly enjoy singing in the Sunday services as I know more about the varied gospel songs and hymns which are so up-lifting. Another special performance has been singing as part of the Gathered Choir at Prom Praise 2018 in the Royal Albert hall. Besides the beautiful venue and size, it was a real privilege to be involved in such a massive choir and concert, all in praise to our God.
One of the only challenges has been reading the sheet music. In my hometown we read music differently. There, the music is written out in the form of numbers. Joining the Choir has increased my ability to learn how to read sheet music and through rehearsing every week has massively improved my skills and ability to pick up the notes from the music. I hope after returning home, I can also train some of my friends how to read music using symbols.
Another highlight of being part of the Choir has been the Bible studies in between rehearsals. This is a great opportunity for me to learn about God’s word deeper and learn through one another. It has been such a blessing as well to pray together and support one another. When I feel a heavy burden, I know that I have friends who can, and do, pray for me.
I am very thankful for the All Souls Music Ministry team for such a great opportunity. God bless you all.”
