Lou Fellingham is an acclaimed Worship Leader and Songwriter, born in Brighton. Known for singing in the British band Phatfish, she is also a solo artist and has toured around the world leading people in worship. We have loved having her feature twice at Prom Praise and more recently for a new TV broadcast. Lou shares with us what it’s like leading worship with a live orchestra behind her.
“Recently returning from TBN Studios London I reflect on my evening with a smile on my face. What a night. The quality of musicianship and heart for worship mixed with Noel’s bounce and exuberance brought life to many that were in the room that night. Truth was sung, melody took flight and many hearts encountered the Holy Spirit as we fixed our eyes on Him and allowed the songs to minister to us again.
It is always a pleasure to work with the All Souls Orchestra. Their commitment to excellence and love of God is a wonderful combination. Having been part of two Prom Praise events at the Royal Albert Hall, another in Eastbourne and recently been with them in London, I can truly say it’s been an honour to work with them.
My songs are usually sung with a contemporary band behind them, so it is a real treat to have them scored out and played with an orchestra. I love that the same song can be expressed so differently and can awaken different emotions. The same God. The same Spirit, working through different sounds and bringing life in different ways. I’ll never forget the first time I stood on the stage at the Royal Albert Hall with a 500 piece choir and full orchestra. It was incredible and so moving to hear the songs scored, sung and played with such beauty. We are kingdom carriers. We carry the good news of Jesus through our songs – both with words and with instruments. What a privilege it has been to share the stage with men and women who are sharing the love and heart of God through their music.
To work with Noel is always a lot of fun. His energy, humour and joy are contagious but it’s not just hype or big personality. There is a depth and sincerity to him that comes across as he leads the orchestra and choir, not just through the songs but through the whole rehearsal time too. There is a deep love for God and a care for his musical family that permeates through the entire time we work together. His kindness and care go a long way to making the evening a special one. He is a real gift to the church and I always value time with him.
I am so grateful to have these opportunities to sing with this wonderful team. Being part of God’s family joins us together.
It has been great to hear ‘There is a day’, ‘Everlasting Arms’, ‘Wholly yours’ and ‘My God cares for you’ in these contexts. I’ve loved it! Early next year I’ll be recording a new album and hope that some of these songs will resonate with All Souls and we will have the opportunity to explore how they sound when orchestrated. It’s always a lot of fun!“
