Michael Andrews

Michael Andrews became Senior Music Minister of All Souls, Langham Place in 2019 as successor to Conductor Emeritus Noël Tredinnick. Michael and Noël’s partnership stems back over several years, collaborating through writing orchestrations and compositions for several Prom Praise and Christmas Unwrapped events as well as conducting and playing for services and concerts. In 2018 he conducted two pieces for the orchestra’s album, Prom Praise: A Festival of Christmas.

Michael studied music at King’s College London (with piano performance at the Royal Academy of Music) gaining a first class degree, before pursuing a Masters in composition at Trinity Laban Conservatoire. He was recently appointed a Colleague of the Royal College of Organists, winning the Sowerbutts and Durant Prize.

As a composer, orchestrator and arranger, Michael has a distinctively eclectic voice and enjoys writing music in an impressive range of styles, from big band jazz to funky gospel, lush Romantic orchestral works to comic musical theatre. He has composed and arranged music for Spirituoso, Liam Byrne (Fretwork), Lontano, Block4, Paul Baloche, Graham Kendrick, Martin Smith, Jonathan Veira and the St Paul’s Cathedral Choir. He has also scored music for TV, film and advertisements, including BBC Songs of Praise, HSBC and Aldi.

Under his direction during the COVID-19 pandemic, Michael led the bands, orchestra and choirs of All Souls in pioneering online outreach and virtual musical worship, leading to a special news feature on BBC News. Michael hosted two special concerts with the All Souls Orchestra and Choir at the height of the pandemic – Virtual Prom Praise and The Christmas Story – which were watched a combined total of 170,000 times from around the world.

Michael has been married to Suzi for four years and they have a young son. They enjoy watching good films, live theatre and eating copious amounts of cheesecake.
