Songs of Hope charts a truly extraordinary year or so in the life of the All Souls Choir between 2020-2021 during a time when singing together at All Souls Church was not possible due to the pandemic. Instead the choir recorded this entire album individually from their homes using their smartphones and computers to provide music for the All Souls Church online services and All Souls Music social media, bringing hope and encouragement to a global audience.
On this album, you can hear one of the very first tracks that they recorded virtually, ‘Nearer my God to Thee’ – recorded in the first peak of the pandemic, when the choir longed to support and stand by a grieving world and nation.
Classic anthems by John Rutter, Bob Chilcott, Ireland, Schubert and Brahms also feature as we chart the choir’s year through Easter and end with the celebration of Christmas. From traditional anthems and carols through to the contemporary choral pieces and worship songs, this album represents a year like none other.
